Tree planting

At Visionary Gardens we have many years of experience in planting trees. Through the study of woodland ecology, mycology and coppicing we can offer sound advice in design, planting and also how to create a working woodland to produce a sustainable source of wood. Woodlands are a community of trees that rely on each other, insects, birds and animals to maintain health.

Fungi are the main players in woodland health and support trees from germination to death and the whole recycling process that creates food availability for plants and trees. This symbiotic relationship is a harmonious one where fungi break down the organic debris from the forest floor allowing the trees to take in the inorganic nutrition.

In exchange, the trees feed the fungi sugar and carbohydrates. This is not always the case as some fungi can be very destructive in woodlands such as honey fungus but some may say as with many problems in ecosystems could be a result of man’s interference as nature usually finds equilibrium in life, death and dominating species.

By understanding trees needs we can give these long-lived species the best start in life. Tree planting can also be used to stabilize river banks, create boundaries or to create an ecological haven. Aside from the larger scale planting, we are also experienced in creating spaces for feature trees in gardens that are designed to stand alone and live for many years.
